Suited for Life provides an opportunity for counseling to work one-on-one or in a group with other young people in similar situations along with a Licensed Professional Counselor to recover from an upsetting experience, explore thoughts and feelings, or for guidance and support when dealing with a difficult issue.
Maurice Nelson, President/Founder
Maurice founded Suited for Life in 2009 and started a career as a certified image consultant to the male participants of the program. Maurice always wanted to stop the cycle of youth focusing all their efforts on sports and not on education and a career path.
As a young man growing up in the west end of Louisville, KY, he longed for a positive alternative to the negative influences that were ever-present in his community. He desperately wanted to escape the grip of drugs, crime and poverty that had engulfed the inner-city generation after generation.
Maurice received the opportunity to take control of his destiny and escape his environment by receiving a basketball scholarship to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. After college he continued on to play professionally in Europe.
After his return from Europe, Maurice spent 8 years in law enforcement as a Tulsa County Deputy Sheriff. In 2013 Maurice began a career in the behavioral health field and in May 2017, he earned a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling-Licensed Professional Counseling track and is currently seeking licensing as an LPC.
